How To Set Up

A Qaulity Piano & Mic

A piano or digital (electric) piano is only needed for piano lessons. If you are thinking of buying a digital piano make sure the keys are weighted and a full (88 keyboard) is best.

For singing lessons you may want to use a USB mic instead of the one built into the webcam (better quality).

computer-tablet-laptop

A computer, laptop or tablet

For Piano Lessons: If you use a desktop computer you will have to have a webcam that is placed next to you . Laptops & Tablets usually come with a webcam so you can place these next to you so I can see your keyboard & hands.

For Singing Lessons: You will need 2 devices. One is for the backup music (or youtube video) , and the other is for your singing voice. When you use the same speakers for both sounds they tend to cancel each other out.

A Good Internet Connection

A good, stable internet connection is important to be able to see me clearly and to transmit your video and audio to me. I recommend a minimum of 10Mbps download AND upload' You test your computer speed by clicking on the internet icon above.

Examples of online lesson setup

Piano Set up

A quality digital piano with 88 keys or accoustic piano works best. You will need to make sure your device with the camera is setup so I can see your keyboard and your hands. Setting the camera above and to the side of the piano works great! Use a music stand, table with books stacked on top, or even a stool.  You could also use a webcam on a mic stand that is to the side and looking down onto the piano keys. As long as I can see your keyboard and hands the lesson will go smoothly.

Remember to check out the video below on how to set the audio settings in zoom so you can achieve the best sound quality!

Vocal Set up

The best set up is to use 2 devices. Maybe a laptop & a tablet. One device is used for the backup music (youtube) and the other to chat or sing.  If you only have one device that will work too. A phone does not work as well for online lessons. You can use the mic from your webcam and the speakers from the computer. Using headphones will help you hear better as well.  If you need to transpose your youtube song into a different key add this extension (click here)
